(AGI) Naples, Nov.12 – A demonstration march making its way along Viale Augusto to Piazzale Tecchio has been broken up in Naples. The demonstrators were trying to break through the police cordon in front of the Mostra d’Oltremare, where talks between Italy’s labour minister, Elsa Fornero, and her German counterpart, Ursula Van Der Leyer, are taking place. Some three thousand people were involved in the demonstration, including students of all ages and unemployed people of all kinds. Smoke and paper bombs, stones, glass bottles and other objects were hurled at police and Carabinieri officers in riot gear, who responded with tear gas. One hundred or so students, senior school girls in particular, took refuge in the atrium of the Faculty of Engineering at the Federico II University of Naples. (source)
